Canterbury Cathedral Archives catalogue entry:
'Aristotle. The Nicomachean Ethics done into Greek verse by William Barron.
Presented to the library of Christ Church by William Gervase, vicar of Sturry in the early 17th century.
Paper book, 100pp, 7.75x5.75in, bound in limp vellum covers, gilt tooled.'
The front endpaper has 'Donum Gulielmi Geruasij'.
William Jervis [Gervase] probably gave the book at some point between the re-founding of the Library in 1628 and his departure to his second parish at Snave in 1629: he was non-resident at Sturry from 1629; the book was listed in the 1634 inventory.
F.1 has a preface signed Ἱλέρμος Βάῤῥος. The Cathedral Archives catalogue interprets this as 'William Barron'; it could also be 'William Barr' or 'William Barrow'. A William Barrow was a near contemporary of Jervis at Cambridge (1605; B.A. 1608-9; M.A. 1612. Fellow, 1612-3. Died in College. Buried at St Andrew's, Cambridge, Oct. 2, 1613).[1]
It is possible that Jervis acquired the book in Cambridge around the time of Barrow's death (1613). He gave it to the Chapter Library shortly after its revival, before moving to his new parish of Snave in 1629.
The text starts on f.2r in the same hand as the main text but a different ink.

Listed as LitMs/E/5 in manuscripts section of the 1802 catalogue compiled by H.J. Todd. Recorded on the Schoenberg Database of Manuscripts.[2]
