Edward Benson (1721-1801) was born in Rochester and educated at the King's School, Canterbury, and then St John's College, Cambridge (1740; BA 1745; MA 1748; fellow 1746-1755). He then trained as a barrister (Middle Temple, 1740; Lincoln's Inn, 1757). He was Auditor to the Dean and Chapter from 1766 to his death. [1]
