Thomas Warton

Thomas Warton (1728–1790) was an English literary historian, critic, and poet. He was educated at Winchester and at Trinity College, Oxford, (1743-4; BA 1747; fellow, MA 1750; BD 1767). He was Professor of Poetry at Oxford from 1756 to 1766, Camden Professor of Ancient History, 1785–1790, and Poet Laureate from 1785 to his death; he was ordained in 1754 and held the office of rector of Kiddington from 1771.[1]
