Armorial bookplate on front pastedown, with motto 'Sola virtus nobilitat': Alexander Henderson.
Printed label on verso of front free endpaper: Sold by C. J. Stewart, 11 King William St. W. Strand, London.
The bookplate probably belonged to Alexander Henderson (1791-1832) whose arms were 'A cubit arm holding a mullet rayed ensigned with a crescent'. His library was sold in 1848.[1]
Charles John Stewart traded at 11 King William Street, W. Strand, London between 1837 and 1882.
