William John Mercer

William John Mercer (d. 1926)[1] was a Margate solicitor, JP, FRHS, of 14 Marine Terrace, Margate. He left a collection of books and papers to Canterbury Cathedral Library and Archives.[2]

He is recorded as Hon. Secretary and architect to the Margate Cottage Hospital. His name occurs in the subscription list to Cowper's Canterbury Marriage Licences, 1894, and other similar publications.

His armorial bookplate has the mottoes 'Ye Great Pule' and 'Crux Christi nostra corona' with the text 'William John Mercer'.
