George Thorp D.D. (1638–1719) was educated at Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge (1653; Scholar, 1653-59; B.A. 1656/7; M.A. 1660; B.D. 1667; Fellow, 1659-63, and 1667-78), D.D (Lambeth) 1678, Fellow of Emmanuel College, Cambridge, 1663-67.[1] He was Master of Harbledown Hospital, rector of Bishopsbourne, with chapel of Barham (1679–1719), rector of Ickham (1687–1719). He was appointed a Canon of Canterbury (Stall V) in 1680. [2]

The Cathedral Archives have a list of "Books bequeathed to the Library by George Thorp, DD" (CCA-DCc-LA/2/2).
