Imperial Abbey of Tegernsee

The Imperial Abbey of Tegernsee, founded in the 8th century, was the most important Benedictine house in Bavaria until its secularisation in 1803. Much of its library passed into the collections of the Bavarian State Library. A series of bookplates from the abbey library with the arms of abbots from the 16th to the 18th centuries can be found on the web site of the Bavarian State Library.
