James Bissell (d. 1638) is recorded as rector of St Mary Bredman, Canterbury, from 1591 to 1638.[1] He was executor in 1609 of the will of Robert Wynne, mayor of Canterbury[2] and is also recorded as an ecclesiastical court judge.[3] In 1604 he is also recorded as a schoolmaster in the Canterbury parishes of St Mary Bredman, St Peter's and All Saints.[1]
It is possible that this book came through the library of William Somner, as Somner's father acted in the same ecclesiastical courts in the diocese.
