Archbishop George Abbot (1562–1633; Archbishop from 1611) bequeathed 25 of the books in his study to the Cathedral Library (Ramsay, 379).
The Benefactors' Book records that he left the following eleven titles (36 volumes) to the Library in his will:

- The book may have come to the Cathedral Library as one of the 25 books given by the Archbishop in 1633, or else with the transfer of duplicates from Lambeth Palace Library later in the century; it does not have the Archbishop's armorial binding stamp.
Armorial binding stamps
Many of the volumes with armorial bindings with the arms of Archbishop Abbot (Gules, a chevron between three pears or) came into the Library at a later date through the gift by Archbishop Sancroft of duplicates from Lambeth Palace Library (c. 1680–1690).
