Houstonne Radcliffe

Dr Houstonne Radcliffe (1738 or 1739–1822) was educated at Brasenose College, Oxford (M.A., D.D., fellow 1766). He was ordained deacon in 1766, priest in 1767, and was perpetual vicar of Gillingham from 1780 to his death. He was subsequently rector of Mersham (1786–1789), a prebendary of Ely cathedral (6th prebend, 1787–1795), rector of Ickham (1788–1822), prebendary of Canterbury cathedral (Stall IV, 1795–1822), Archdeacon of Canterbury and Master of St John's Hospital, Canterbury and Master of St Nicholas's Hospital, Harbledown (1803–1822). He was also subdean of Wells Cathedral (1812–1822).[1]

Inscription on sheet pasted on front free endpaper: This book of Martyr's, by Fox, belong's to the Chapel of St John's Hospital, without the North-Gate of the City of Canterbury. [at foot of sheet:] This Book was new Bound in 1804 by order of the Revd. Dr. Radcliff, The then archdeacon & Master of the said Hospital, at the Expense of 12 shillings.
