The Rev. Jonas Owyn (1600–1680), was educated at St John's College, Oxford (1618; B.C.L. 1625; Law reader 1625-26; Vice-President 1630; fellow until 1635).[1] Owyn states that he was a decemvir of the College, one of the council of ten Seniors in residence who acted as advisers to the President.[1] He was ordained in 1628[2] and was inducted as rector of Ruskington (Lincoln) in 1630.[3] Owyn was at St John's College during the Presidency of William Laud (1611–1621) and William Juxon (1621–1633). Thomas Turner, Dean of Canterbury from 1644, was also a fellow during this period.

After the Restoration under the patronage of Archbishop Juxon he became vicar of Sibertswold cum Colred (Sheperdswell with Coldred) in 1662 and rector of Wootton in 1663.[1] In 1668 he gave the Cathedral Library his copy of the 1610 Douai Bible in which he had recorded Archbishop Juxon's career and contribution to the rebuilding of the Chapter Library at Canterbury.[4]
