Richard Charles Hussey (1806–1887), architect and controversial church restorer, retired to live in Harbledown. He conducted research in the Cathedral Archives and published Extracts from antient documents relating to the cathedral and precincts of Canterbury (1881).

Hussey gave over seventy works to the Chapter Library between 1870 and his death in 1887, mostly in 1877. There are also books in the collections with inscriptions of other members of the Hussey family which probably came in through the gift of R.C. Hussey.
