Robert Charles Eden

Robert Charles Eden (1836–1907) was the son of the Rev. Hon. William Eden (1792–1859), vicar of Bekesbourne and rector of Bishopsbourne and a Six Preacher. He was a student at Oriel College, Oxford in 1857, in which year his father died and he set out for the United States, settling in Oshkosh, Winnebago County, Wisconsin in 1859. He fought in the American Civil War, attaining the rank of Lt Colonel. The family settled for a time in Rhode Island in the 1870s before returning to England and Scotland. They then lived in Massachusetts, Finland, Washington and New Jersey where he was employed as an engineer for the Edison Electric Company. He died at his home in Bloomfield, New Jersey.
