Father Sebastian Günthner (1773–1820) was one of the last monks of the Imperial Abbey of Tegernsee when it was secularised in 1803. He subsequently became a corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences. Günthner appears to have acquired some quantity of the books from the abbey's library, which now have his inscription Ad Bibliothecam Gunthnerianam.
