William Howley

William Howley (1766–1848), Archbishop of Canterbury from 1828, was the patron of Archdeacon Benjamin Harrison who inherited a portion of his library. Howley was educated at Winchester College and then New College, Oxford (BA 1787, MA 1791) where he was subsequently fellow and tutor. He was appointed a canon of Christ Church, Oxford in 1804 and regius professor of divinity in 1809. He was appointed bishop of London in 1813.
