Richard Bagot

Richard Bagot (1782–1854), Dean of Canterbury (1827–1845) and Bishop of Oxford (1829-1845), Bishop of Bath and Wells (1845-1854). He was educated at Rugby School, Christ Church, Oxford, (1799; B.A. 1803; M.A. 1806; D.D. 1829), fellow of AllSouls College, Oxford, (1803-1806). He became a prebendary of Lichfield Cathedral in 1812 and in 1817 a canon of Worcester. In 1827 he was appointed dean of Canterbury and in 1829 bishop of Oxford, holding the deanery in commendam.[1]

- Given by Sir Charles Bagot (1781–1843) to his brother Richard Bagot (1782–1854), Dean of Canterbury (1827–1845) and Bishop of Oxford (1829-1845), probably in the period 1831-1841 when Sir Charles Bagot was not on diplomatic duties abroad. The book was subsequently given by Richard Bagot to Canterbury Cathedral Library, possibly on his resignation in 1845.
