William Urry

William Urry B.A., Ph.D., F.S.A., F.R.H.S. (1913–1981), Canterbury Cathedral and City Archivist, was born in Canterbury and educated at Kent College. In 1946 he was appointed assistant to William Blore, the Honorary Librarian of the Cathedral. He became Cathedral Librarian and Archivist in 1948 and in 1951 Archivist to the City of Canterbury. He was a Visiting Fellow to All Souls College, Oxford, in 1968 and the following year was appointed to Reader in Medieval Western Palaeography at Oxford and a Fellow of St Edmund Hall. He died in February 1981.
